Character Information

Character Name: Donna Noble.

Canon: Doctor Who.

Canon Point: Post 4x12, "The Stolen Earth".

Character Journal: [personal profile] useproperwords.

Appearance: Donna Noble is a redhead through and through. No hair dye for her, thanks. She's also got green eyes and she's about 5 feet 7 inches, meaning she's fairly tall. Most of the time, she dresses rather sharply for someone who's stuck doing temp work. She certainly doesn't look poor, at least.

She's rather fond of wearing dresses paired with jeans and topped with some kind of long coat of various designs and colors. I'd have to say that Donna's style of dress is plain and straightforward with a nod to femininity. But when she's not wearing her dresses (usually some variation of the color purple, though she's not above wearing dresses with abstract patterns), sharp-looking pantsuits paired with a blouse seem to be her other go-to option.

As far as shoes go, Donna's choice in that area tends to go towards the more comfortable option instead of, say, heels or slippers. It's hard to say if her shoes are clogs or something similar, but they definitely have closed toes and look like they'd work for walking or running around in.

Age: It's not really stated anywhere but I'd have to say Donna's in her mid to late thirties. Her actor Catherine Tate was around 38 when she first started playing Donna, which is what I'm basing her age on.

History: http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Donna_Noble.

Personality: Sometimes, Donna Noble can be a bit scary, because she's got a rather explosive
temper that can burst out when she's angry or frustrated, and sometimes, she can say some vaguely insulting things, usually in high-stress moments. But it's not that Donna's a mean-spirited person; her sharp tongue and quick temper covers up her capacity for understanding and compassion, as well as no small amount of intelligence. She's a bit quick to undermine herself, calling herself "just a temp", but Donna Noble definitely has a brain.

To say she's shallow and, well, stupid, would be unfair to her, because she's really not. I mean, yes, she's obviously got an eye for fashion, even with her supposed limited budget, and though it's not really said, it seems that she does enjoy so-called girly things like going shopping and tanning. Or maybe it's just that she knows how to pamper herself, and she enjoys doing said pampering.

But still, she's actually quite perceptive, picking up on things about the Doctor during their first meeting. For example, it didn't take her long to realize that the Doctor needed a companion to go with him on his travels, that he needed someone to rein him in and be there for him. She'd only just met the Doctor, but that became apparent to her rather quickly, although granted, the Doctor's extreme actions at the time might have had something to do with it.

Some might say that the Doctor and Donna were kindred spirits, very much on the same page with each other. Their sense of humor was similar in that both of them tended towards a dry sort of wit, which turned out to make them excellent foils for each other, something both of them needed. You might say that, at first, Donna appeared to be this abrasive woman who was quick to criticize, usually just a bit harshly too. Being with the Doctor calmed that down a bit and helped to bring out Donna's more compassionate side. There were quite a few occasions during Donna's travels with the Doctor that she would beg and plead with him to stop and save people whose lives were in danger, even if doing so would mess with the flow of time.

That was quite the shift in Donna's personality towards the end of her travels with the Doctor. Whereas before, she'd been rather selfish, only thinking of herself, she became somewhat the opposite, being selfless and putting others before herself. The episode set around the destruction of Pompeii puts this into sharp relief, because Donna was adamant and desperate to save as many lives as were possible, even though the Doctor said the eruption and resulting destruction was fixed in time. Donna was absolutely not content to just let people die, not when she could do something about it.

It's also important to note that Donna really doesn't have a great deal of self-esteem. She's usually the first one to label herself as unimportant, and it seems that she really believes that. And it's that belief that most likely caused her to put on that brash and loud persona of hers, because otherwise, no one would even pay attention to her, since she believed herself to be insignificant.

And I think it's interesting to note that Donna never really seemed to realize that about herself over the course of her travels with the Doctor. Martha Jones, the Doctor's previous companion, who also seemed to have issues with her own importance and worth, came to realize that she was important, and as she put it, she was good, just like the Doctor. We never got a similar statement from Donna, which makes me think she never changed her opinion of herself.
But whether she saw it in herself or not, the fact remains that Donna Noble is a fierce woman with great capacity to love and to look after others, especially those who can't do the same for themselves. She's fiercely loyal and compassionate, and definitely a lot smarter than she gives herself credit for being.

Powers/Special Abilities: Donna's about as normal as they come. She doesn't have any supernatural abilities or powers.

River Power: Enhanced hearing, basically what it says on the tin: the ability to hear things with increased clarity, even from far off.
